Fours weeks have just come and gone and I can say I’ve had a blast with my practicum. I’ve learned to be a better producer and more about the industry I’m just steps from jumping into. I realize that I DO have the skills to get into industry and do something awesome. I need to put myself first and take care of myself in industry even with I’m having a blast producing. I’m going to miss getting to make stuff that goes live to so many different markets. Guess that means I need to work my butt off and get a job 🙂 I do know this, I’m definitely going to make sure I stay in touch with Rob and send him any new demos I come up with.
Week 4 Day 16, March 29, 2021
I did a morning editing on the metallic spots I did at end of last week. Eq fixing and dropping a compressor was needed. Later I will get to learn to do better ending on music beds.
I got to be a fly on the wall during production meeting. Meeting everyone was really cool and now I’ve got a ton of folks I can network with in the future.
It was funny when everyone got talking about what speakers have. The really funny thing for me was realizing that when they were talking about a monitor they meant their speakers. Another take away I need to get a really big coffee cup because almost every signal person had one.
Today I got two new spots due later this week and I got to coach Rob as he voiced one for me. I was given a look into how voicing is happening right now in industry due to pandemic protocols. And that’s its had kind of a negative effect since producers can’t always coach how they want to, to pull out great reads from announcers. Something that according to Rob, Graham does very well. It’s been a busy day.

Just finishing off commercial spots then onto JUT80s for the last time.
I got to go on a popping p fit binge and the use of the FFT effect over dropping down the p so can still hear the pah but not thump of the beat. A very useful tool for the future. Of course we shortcut keyed it to my keyboard which makes things 100x easier.

More work on JUT80s. I really have to batten down on it since there’s no Friday this week because of Good Friday. And that means that Thursday is my last day 😥
Got through most of JUT80s today. Tomorrow I’ll finish the last day and then its onto music promos with Rob. That will be fun. I can’t believe four weeks have gone by so fast.
Week 4 Day 19, April 1, 2021
THE FINAL DAY
NOOOOOOoooooooo!!! I don’t want it to end.
I pushed myself and got the last one of JUT80s done. The afternoon was full of getting to see how Rob makes music promos and getting to put my input in for one of the songs. It was really fun getting to go back and forth with Rob about it.
I also got to ask Rob about how he’s time as a freelancer worked and how to handle going from one job to the next. Big thing is take care of yourself because radio is a business first. Ant the other was be transparent about what you want.
I had a blast the last three hours of my practicum. It was a music promo madness and it was a great way to end my last day. I got to do music promos with Rob and see how he’s created them in the past. We worked through one together and it came out really cool. I can’t wait to try and make a beat mix style id.
